Bloomfield Science Museum is a cultural and educational institution that presents interactive exhibits on subjects of science and technology, and contextualizes these exhibits through a wide range of educational activities. The goals of the museum are to increase interest among the general public in science and technology in the world around us, to promote excellence in science among youth, and to present science and technology as an integral part of human culture.
What is your interest in having an International Fellow?
We are very interested in the opportunity of working with an International Fellow, to share our passion for developing science culture and an interest in science among diverse communities and to be exposed to creativity and new ideas.
What kind of international artists have been involved with Bloomfield in the past?
As a science museum with a strong international reputation, we often exchange exhibitions with science museums abroad. During 2019 we presented our exhibitions – Bicycle in Bremen (Germany) and in Naples (Italy); Illusions-Mind Boggling in Paris (France); and Brain in Warsaw (Poland). During 2018 we presented an exhibition from Paris at our museum – To Risk or Not to Risk. Over the past several years we have presented artwork, installations, and performances by international artists and makers as part of exhibitions and festivals that we organized.
Who is your audience and what is your general interaction with the Jerusalem public?
Every year, we serve some 250,000 visitors in our museum, in addition to 50,000 people who benefit from our outreach programs that take place in community centers and schools. Our main audiences include families with young children, students and teachers of all sectors (Jews, Arabs, secular and religious), mostly from Jerusalem.
What kind of space and personnel will you provide your Fellow?
As a science center that develops and builds all of our own interactive exhibits, demonstrations, educational devices, and tools, we have a professional technical team of engineers, designers, and technicians. We also have a very professional and well-equipped workshop for various crafts that enables working with wood, metals, plastic, electronics, and software. We have a new Maker Space equipped with a laser cutter, CNC, 3D printers, sewing machines etc. The workshop’s storage contains a wide variety of raw materials and electronic components. Artists who exhibit their work at our museum receive technical support from our workshop team.
