Museum on the Seam is a socio-political contemporary art museum situated on the Jerusalem seam line between Mea Shearim, Sheikh Jarrah, Damascus Gate, Musrara and the Old City. It is located in a beautiful neo-classical building, which served between 1948-1967 as an Israeli military outpost situated on the border between Israel and Jordan.
The museum has gained recognition for its unique approach to art, having been named by the New York Times as “one of the 29 most impressive art institutions in the world”. We believe in using art as a universal language to initiate public discussions on social matters, emphasizing our commonalities rather than our differences.
Previous exhibitions have explored various themes such as women’s rights, economy, climate change and sustainability, animal rights, democracy, and the contemporary experience of loneliness.
The rooftop of the museum offers one of the most beautiful views in Jerusalem, along with a café that provides wireless internet access and an art library. While our space may not have large workshop rooms, it does offer an intimate space, making it an ideal location to host a photographer.
Chen Shapira is a multidisciplinary artist, a curator, a researcher, an educator and a lecturer in Bezalel academy of arts and design and Kibbutzim College. He initiated and led educational programs in the Ministry of Education, and established an online and open database of art projects.
